Memorable Trip to Mcleodganj

The bus was running at its full pace crossing all the flat fields and suddenly the flat fields were replaced with forested hills and after sometime, the forested hills were replaced by snow covered mountains. After a long journey from Delhi for about 13 hours, we finally reached the destination, Dharamshala. From here we had to take a taxi to reach the ultimate destination of our voyage, Mcleodganj.
Mcleodganj is mainly known as the residence of Dalai Lama and the capital of the Tibetan government in exile. As soon as we reached the town, our perceptions were shattered badly. It was not like any regular hill station. Mcleodganj was a crowded place and was not looking like an ideal peaceful hill station. The streets were jam packed and shared by vehicles, stray cows and people equally. Even though it was a crowded place, but the beauty of the town was outstanding. The streets were decorated with shops containing colourful artefacts and unique stones and articles, which gave a sneak peak into the Tibetan culture.
When we reached our hotel, the hotel staff greeted and welcomed us so warmly that we felt overwhelmed. The room was gorgeous and reasonably priced and the view from the balcony topped everything. The forested mountains looked so astonishing from the balcony of our hotel room that it forced us to drop the ides of resting for some time, and we immediately hit the streets after freshening up.
The first place we visited in Mcleodganj was the Tsuglagkhang temple where we came to know a lot about the teachings of Buddha and the Tibetan Buddhism. Although I am not a very religious person, yet I must say that visiting the temple was a very soothing and relaxing experience. It is great attraction for people who are interested in studying Tibetan culture and Buddhism.
After we got out of the temple complex, we headed to the Bhagsu village where Bhagsu nag temple was situated. It is a very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. From there, we started our three kilometres hike towards the Bhagsu nag waterfall. As we were closing the waterfall, the sound of falling water was getting louder and was creating a sort of excitement amongst us. Swimming in the pool of the fall was freezing but amazing.
From there we took some rest at the Shiva cafe and enjoyed some hot tea and fire. I must say that it was a good idea to buy some thermal wear online in India prior to our journey. The temperature here was bone chilling, and we could not survive without these thermal wear.
The natural beauty and spiritual appearance are not the only thing special about this small town. The cuisine and warm hospitality of the locals here are so pleasing that you will find it difficult to say farewell to such as nice and beautiful place.

Named after David McLeod, McLeodganj and Dharamshala became renowned places for commerce, trade and tourism. The British would bring their families to spend the summers here. It became their favorite vacation destination. However, the township was destroyed by an earthquake in 1905.
